FlexScan is AFL's newest OTDR

FlexScan is the newest in optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs) from AFL. The pocket-sized device offers network characterization and fault location in fiber networks via AFL's SmartAuto and LinkMap technologies.

According to the company, the FlexScan "automatically selects the most appropriate OTDR settings to detect, locate, identify and measure network start, end, connectors, splices and macro-bends." The device also uses color-coded fault indication and offers corrective solutions for detected faults.

AFL touts the FlexScan as an outside plant technician tool, highlighting the device's backlit display and rugged, lightweight construction as benefits for users in the field. In addition, the FlexScan has a 12 hour rechargeable battery life and can connect to both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The company said results can be transferred from the FlexScan to computers or other devices via the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, or by USB. Release
