Jones/NCTI purchased by CEO Slaughter

Jones/NCTI CEO and CFO Stacey Slaughter has decided to purchase the Centennial, Colo.-based provider of distance learning services for cable and broadband technicians and service reps for an undisclosed sum.

Ownership of the training operation had been in question since July, when influential founder Glenn R. Jones died. Jones' pioneering distance learning operation, Jones International University, was closed last year, due to low enrollment.

Slaughter said she plans to move the business to Littleton, Colo. and change the name to simply NCTI — it has been operating under the moniker Jones/NCTI since 2005, when Jones International Academy founder acquired rival NCTI. All 30 employees will be retained.

The Jones International facilities in Centennial will be sold to developer looking to create office and multifamily housing space.

Jones/NCTI creates printed materials and software used to train cable installers. It touts about 12,000 certifications a year for both independent installers and those employed by MSOs large and small. It's course topics include DOCSIS 3.1, fiber networks and WiFi installation, among others.

Slaughter joined Jones International in 1996 as an accountant, rising to to succeed Jones as CEO in 2014

"Since Glenn's passing, [buying Jones/NCTI] has been something that has really been on my mind," Slaughter told the Denver Business Journal. "This is a company and group of people whose passion and ability I've been impressed by."
