They're Cooked: The top wireline turkeys of 2014

Thanksgiving is upon us. And whether you're traveling to your uncle's house in anticipation of covering your plate with his "groovy gravy" or making a claim for the most comfortable chair, Thanksgiving is all about traditions. Like your family, the FierceTelecom family is also about honoring tradition and our annual Top Wireline Telecom turkeys list is a reflection of that.

Being that we are near the end of the year, we think it's also a good time to reflect back on the past year. Now in its fifth year (check out our lists from 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013), our latest edition of the Top Wireline Telecom Turkeys serves up a healthy portion of companies' failed initiatives, products, strategies and executive mishaps of 2014.

While it's never nice to highlight the weaknesses of others, we agree with our colleagues over at FierceWireless and FierceCable--who published their own list of wireless turkeys--that the wireline industry can learn from the mistakes of others.

This list is not all inclusive, but rather a snapshot of some of the biggest missteps in the past year. Since you may have other suggestions about the biggest turkeys in wireline, I encourage you to offer your thoughts and suggestions in the comments section.

Some of these turkeys are bigger than others, which is why we have ranked them on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the biggest turkey.–Sean
