CES: Comcast touts telephony, boosts video

Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts is scheduled to give the keynote speech this morning at the International Consumer Electronics Show. As of this writing, the keynote hadn't begun yet, but fortunately for us, Roberts' speech has been getting a lot of advance coverage.

Roberts reportedly will tell the crowd the Comcast is now the fourth largest telephone company in the U.S. market, with 4.1 million voice customers. He also reportedly will discuss a new video plan call Project Infinity. That sounds a lot more daunting than "Project Runway" and something Buzz Lightyear might be into, but it's the new effort by Comcast to boost its available video programming in the face of increasing competition. The plan includes a commitment to offer more than 1000 scheduled video, video-on-demand and Web video choices by the end of this year.
