Level 3 aims to recover from'stubbed toe'

Level 3 Communications Chairman and CEO James Crowe, speaking at CitiGroup's Global Entertainment, Media and Telecommunications Conference, admitted his company stubbed its toe last year in selling services at a faster rate than it could install them. He outlined how the company is recovering and re-focusing on better managing that situation at the same time IP and wireless trends are beginning to play to the company's network strengths.

A stubbed toe can be pretty painfully--don't the words themselves make your toes curl in defense? Yet, Level 3's challenge may go beyond stubbed toes, and run more toward the difficult, complicated integration required when a company makes as many acquisitions as Level 3 has in recent years. Ironically, Crowe said Level 3 wasn't interested in becoming a "serial acquirer," but maybe what he meant was "been there, done that."
