SP Spotlight: nTelos on TV with Microsoft

Who: nTelos Holdings Corp.

Vitals: Based in Waynesboro, Va., this 107-year-old telco offers wireline and wireless services (the latter through a resale agreement with Sprint Nextel) in parts of Virginia, West Virginia and other nearby states. It has 44,867 rural ILEC access lines, and 48,095 CLEC lines, according to hits most recent quarterly earnings report.

Why you should care: nTelos, like a lot of telco, is seeing access line declines, but it also has recently seen improved operating revenue for its wireline business. To further increase its revenue potential, the carrier has joined with Microsoft to offer IPTV services. This deal also is Microsoft's first TV contract with a U.S. independent telco.
