Verizon adds Turner Networks and Sony to FiOS VOD lineup

Verizon's FiOS TV has expanded its free movie and other on-demand offerings through new deals with Turner Networks and Sony. The new content includes HD movies, plus news and kids entertainment.

Turner Networks will provide an "array" of new movies spanning from new releases to "favorite classics" with titles such as "Anaconda," "The Da Vinci Code," "Final Destination 3," "The Firm," "A Knight's Tale," "Roman Holiday" and "Striking Distance."  FiOS already carries live programming and free movies from eight Turner channels, including Adult Swim, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, TNT, TruTV and Turner Classic Movies.

Sony is bringing more recent film releases in HD, including recent box office hits like "Hancock" and "Pineapple Express."

All told, the FiOS TV video on demand (VOD) library has more than 14,000 titles with 8,500 of them available free of charge.

Verizon and Comcast continue to conduct a slowly escalating war of "who's got the coolest content available."  Two weeks ago, Comcast announced an "exclusive and unprecedented" HD collection of U2 videos and concerts available for on-demand viewing, along with the first HD music video single off U2's new album "No Line on the Horizon."
