8X8 offers businesses new VoIP SLA guarantee

8X8 is giving its enterprise customers a reason to be more comfortable with deploying a VoIP service by offering a new Service Level Agreement (SLA) that it says can guarantee high levels of service availability and voice quality for calls conducted over the public Internet.

Unlike typical VoIP SLAs that are limited to the service provider's network and not the underlying connection, 8X8 said the difference is its "Performance Assured" SLA is designed to guarantee end-to-end VoIP service uptime, reliability and call quality over any underlying broadband network the customer chooses, be it the public Internet, an MPLS network or a dual MPLS/public Internet connection.

Diane Myers, principal analyst, Infonetics Research, part of IHS Inc., said in a press release that the new SLA will help 8X8 differentiate itself from its growing host of competitors, particularly as they look to gain a further foothold in the mid-sized business and large enterprise markets.

"This assurance that 8x8's hosted PBX and unified communications solution meets the quality and reliability requirements of customers, while at the same time delivering valuable benefits, will go a long way in supporting 8x8's push into the midmarket and enterprise segment," she said.

The service provider said that its "Performance Assured" SLA provides guarantees of more than 99.99 percent uptime in addition to a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) of greater than or equal to 3.0 for at least 98 percent of all calls carried over the network, including those using compressed codecs such as G.729a, which typically exhibit less than toll quality MOS scores even under perfect network conditions.

This new SLA is just one of several moves 8X8 has made to enhance its growing service portfolio with tools that enable its customers to get a better handle on their service experience. Besides the new SLA for VoIP, 8X8 recently introduced its Virtual Analytics suite, which gives businesses insight on how they use their communications services and usage trends specific to their organization.
