ACA Connects hires UScellular's Grant Spellmeyer as its new CEO

Broadband industry association ACA Connects has named Grant Spellmeyer as its new president and CEO, effective June 1. Spellmeyer, currently VP of government affairs at UScellular, will replace ACA Connects’ Matt Polka.

The news comes shortly after Polka announced he was stepping down from the organization earlier this month. Polka has been CEO of ACA Connects for over 25 years – the first and only CEO the organization has ever had.

Spellmeyer said in a statement Polka is “leaving behind a firm foundation for the future, and my plan is to seize the opportunities presented to us in this rapidly changing business.”

Although Spellmeyer has held his current role for about a year, he has been with UScellular since 2006. He spent six years as the company’s executive director for federal affairs and public policy, before serving eight years as VP in the same department. In his roles, Spellmeyer directed legislative and regulatory efforts – on the state and federal levels – across UScellular’s 21-state operating footprint.

Prior to UScellular, Spellmeyer spent five years at TDS Telecom as director of legal affairs and carrier relations.

Spellmeyer added one of his top priorities going into the position is to ensure ACA members “continue to succeed in providing consumers with a variety of competitive services – regardless of company size or geography.”

ACA will officially celebrate Spellmeyer’s appointment at the Independent Show, which is scheduled to be held in Florida at the end of July.
