There are probably too many VoIP service providers, or at least too many trying to take as big a chunk of the retail market as they can get. Momentum Telecom in Birmingham, Ala., looked hard at retail and made the more sensible decision to pursue VoIP wholesale. The company now serves a lot of small cable TV companies for which VoIP is just another customer retention tool.
As the SunRockets of the world disappear and the Skypes of the world suffer service availability problems, there's still room to succeed in VoIP wholesale if you have clear customer targets.
