Alca-Lu intensifies services focus

Alcatel-Lucent, looking to finally overcome financial disappointments and merger integration hurdles, announced a renewed focus on five key business areas and a new marketing logo for its services business, which arguably is most significant of those five key areas to Alca-Lu's near-term recovery.

Another of those areas is the public sector market of governments, utilities and other industries, which one Alca-Lu official referred to in a Light Reading story as a "great hedge against the carrier business." Managed and professional services are also a hedge against the traditional business of selling equipment to carriers, and Alca-Lu may need as many hedges as it can find.
