AT&T hiring 30 workers to support broadband, cloud efforts in Connecticut

AT&T (NYSE: T) has begun a hiring drive in Connecticut to take on more than 30 workers to support its growing mix of broadband, cloud and wireless services in the state.

The telco said the hiring reflects its continuing investment in Connecticut and its support team. Since January, the service provider has hired over 180 new employees to serve the state's growing base of U-verse IPTV and next-gen business services like Ethernet.

During the first half of this year, AT&T invested almost $140 million in its wireline and wireless networks in the state as part of its broader Project VIP initiative. On the wireline side, it added 6,600 new U-verse locations, while extending fiber to an additional 40 buildings to serve 1,100 new business locations.

While Connecticut is one of the smaller states in its territory, the growth there reflects how more customers are tuning into its strategic consumer and business services. In Q3 2013, U-verse revenue rose 28.1 percent to $3.1 billion while next-gen business services, which include Ethernet and IP VPN, grew 15.7 percent.

In recent months, the telco has been aggressively upping its employee base in across its 22-state footprint with similar hiring drives in six other states, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
