Birch boosts growth with Kansas operations center expansion

Birch Communications has taken another step in its expansion strategy, announcing that it has expanded its offices in Emporia, Kan., an effort it says will accommodate its customers' growth.

The expansion of the office coincides with Birch's move to hire another 120 employees to work in its Emporia call center.

Set to begin immediately, the expansion project will extend its reach into previously unused office space and an expanded parking lot. Upon completion, Birch's Emporia offices will occupy nearly 40,000 square feet of space.

Expanding the Emporia office caps off what was another year of growth for Birch, led by its acquisition of Cbeyond in July 2014.

By acquiring Cbeyond, Birch immediately scaled its customer base to 200,000 business customers located in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. It also increased its network footprint to 31,000 fiber route miles, over 550 fiber-lit buildings, 594 network collocations and six data centers.

Emporia is just one of several regional office expansions that Birch is making. In December, the service provider announced that it opened a new sales branch office in Livonia, Mich., and expanding its sales force to better target business sales opportunities in the Detroit area.
