CableLabs recently made a big move forward with the release of its DOCSIS 3.1 PHY (physical layer) specifications last week during the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo. Besides enabling higher data rates of up to up to 10 Gbps, Tom Lookabaugh, EVP and chief of research and development at CableLabs, sees the opportunity to "exploit wired and wired architectures."
