Calix's Q2 revenue rises 3.8% to $98M on domestic, international growth

Calix bounced back from a slow first quarter, reporting that second-quarter 2014 revenue was $98 million, up 3.8 percent year-over-year from $94.4 million and up sequentially from $85.8 million in the first quarter of 2014. The company attributes the revenue increase to a host of new domestic and international customer sales.

Throughout the second quarter, the vendor announced a number of key domestic customer wins focused on delivering Gigabit fiber-based broadband services, including Grande Communications, GVTC, the city of Longmont, Colo., and TDS Telecom.

TDS Telecom announced in May that it is using Calix's E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and 700GE family of optical network terminals (ONTs) for its new residential 1 Gbps fiber network in Hollis, N.H., for example.

On the international front, Planet Communications (Planetcomm) selected Calix's E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and T-Series ONTs for a GPON-based residential and business fiber deployment serving Thailand's rapidly growing major cities, including Bangkok and Pattaya.

"We continue to make solid progress expanding our domestic and international customer footprint and achieved our highest level of sales for a second fiscal quarter," said Carl Russo, Calix president and CEO, in the earnings release. "Service providers of all types are pursuing device-enabled subscribers who are increasingly accessing cloud-based content and applications."

The company's non-GAAP net income for the second quarter of 2014 was $5.1 million, or 10 cents per fully diluted share, compared to a non-GAAP net income of $4.8 million, or $0.10 per fully diluted share, for the second quarter of 2013.

It also reported that the second-quarter 2014 GAAP net loss was $4.0 million, or 8 cents per basic and diluted share, compared to a GAAP net loss of $5.2 million, or 10 cents per basic and diluted share, for the second quarter of 2013.

Shares of Calix were listed at $8.21, up 13 cents or 1.61 percent, at the close of trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Tuesday.
