CenturyLink taps Liberty Global, Covad exec Aamir Hussain to be new CTO

CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) has appointed Aamir Hussain as its new executive vice president and CTO, taking over the role from Matt Beal, who left the company in April to become Vodafone's innovation and architecture director.

Hussain most recently served as Liberty Global's managing director and CTO for Europe, a position he resigned from in September.

Before Liberty Global, Hussain was senior vice president and CTO at Covad Communications, now MegaPath. Earlier, he held other leadership and technology design roles throughout his career at TELUS, Qwest, BellSouth, Samsung and Motorola.

In his new role at CenturyLink, Hussain will oversee the design and delivery of next-generation products, services and technologies.

Hussain will get to work side by side with other CenturyLink technology leaders like James Feger, vice president, CenturyLink network strategy and development, on driving new innovations into its network, like software-defined networking (SDN).

He will report directly to Glen Post, CEO and chairman of CenturyLink.
