CenturyTel CEO's compensation: $7.6 million

Glen Post, the chairman and CEO of CenturyTel, was given a compensation package worth $7.6 million for 2008, the Associated Press reports. That pay package was actually about 15 percent less than in 2007. Post's deal included a $1 million base salary, about $864,000 in incentives, more than $600,000 in stock dividends, and several thousand dollars in perks such as aircraft use.

Post's pay is far from the double-digit millions that the top execs of the big telcos took home in 2008. Of course, CenturyTel is a smaller independent telco, though it is looking to almost quadruple its landline customer base through its pending acquisition of Embarq.
