Ciena finishes 3Q strong

Equipment vendor Ciena Corp. beat analyst expectations in reporting in third-quarter earnings today. The Linthicum, Md., company reported its 14th straight quarter of revenue growth, and said that recent new customer wins were a contributing factor. The company has been pushing hard into Ethernet, where carriers are spending more money these days.

In a network equipment market where the biggest players have merged to strengthen their ability to be partners to ever-larger carriers, mid-sized (relatively-speaking) companies like Ciena seem left out, but that's not the story that earnings are telling.
