Ciena posts strong Q4, lands BT deal

Optical networking equipment vendor Ciena Corp reported fiscal fourth quarter earnings of $30.4 million, or about 30 cents per share, more than double its earnings for the same quarter last year. Revenue also was up 35% year-over-year, and Ciena beat most Wall Street estimates for the quarter. The vendor also announced it had landed a deal to supply Ethernet access gear for BT's 21st Century Network project. Ciena already provides BT with core transport equipment for the 21CN. The deal is a victory for Ciena's Ethernet access PEM partner ANDA Networks.
