Cisco, Telecom Italia work with five universities to develop SDN test bed

Telecom Italia has synched up with five Italian universities to develop a software-defined networking (SDN) test bed that uses Cisco technologies, reports FierceWirelessTech. Participating universities in the Joint Open Lab (JOL) consortium include Trento University, Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Polytechnic University of Milan, Polytechnic University of Turin and Catania University. Like other incumbent service providers, Telecom Italia is still trying to understand how it would use SDN, but it sees benefits in introducing new services with a more automated infrastructure and lowering operating costs.
