Comcast Business (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has deepened its fiber footprint in Texas, announcing that it has extended facilities into Baytown's Cedar Crossing Industrial Park.
Comprised of 15,000 acres, 56 miles of rail with the storage capacity of 1,750 rail cars, and a barge dock for commercial and industrial use for improved efficiency of transporting goods and containers from the Port of Houston, Cedar Crossing is an attractive target for Comcast Business.
The cable MSO can attract a host of potential customers such as Walmart, Home Depot, GE and Siemens, which house their warehousing, distribution and logistics facilities in the business park.
Being a competitive provider, Comcast Business does not have to worry about cannibalizing existing T-1 revenue that its ILEC competitor has with Ethernet-based services.
Out of the box it can provide its fiber-based Ethernet products, including Ethernet Dedicated Internet, Ethernet Private Line, Ethernet Virtual Private Line and Ethernet Network Services with speeds of up to 10 Gbps. In addition to Ethernet, Comcast will offer its Business VoiceEdge, a cloud-based voice and unified communications solution.
Similar to its recent network build in Pleasanton, Calif.'s Valley Business Park, this build could potentially drive more companies to locate their facilities in the park.
"By improving the network infrastructure available to existing and prospective tenants, they will be able to attract even more jobs and diverse industries to the area," said Stephen DonCarlos, Baytown's mayor, in a release.
The Baytown network expansion is part of an ongoing effort by the cable MSO to bolster its growing business revenue base. It has made similar network expansions in downtown Houston, Renton, Wash., and San Mateo, Calif.
