Comcast, DirecTV stick toes in the virtual reality waters

A group of pay-tv providers including Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) and AT&T's (NYSE: T) DirecTV unit are expressing interest in the emerging virtual reality (VR) concept. In its new report, "Comcast, Direct TV among pay-TV operators kicking the tires on virtual reality," FierceCable captures some of the industry's initial moves.

Comcast recently joined Time Warner Inc. in generating a $30.5 million funding round for NextVR, a Laguna Beach, Calif., startup that broadcasts events in virtual reality, for example.
