Comcast Wholesale launches international IP voice termination services

Just in time for the upcoming PTC 2016 trade show, Comcast Wholesale (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has begun offering international IP voice termination service to its growing portfolio of wholesale services.

Targeting its multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs), ILECs, CLECs and over-the-top (OTT) voice carrier customers, the solution is ideal for carriers that originate their own traffic, such as MVPDs. The service provider said that many of its existing customers already signed on to the new international service.

The IP voice termination service uses the same network and is supported by the same resources that handle Comcast Cable's own voice traffic.

Wholesale voice usage has become a key element within Comcast Wholesale, a product that it says has grown to more than 2.5 billion minutes of voice traffic per month for CLECs, ILECs, VoIP providers, international carriers and several of the largest multichannel video distributors (MVPDs) in North America.

Barry Tishgart, vice president at Comcast Wholesale said in a release that the "new service can help them expand their footprint overseas, increase efficiencies and navigate new technologies."

Being able to provide international voice termination will make Comcast Wholesale more valuable with its existing and potentially new customers that are looking to enhance time to market in other countries where they don't have a network presence.

International voice termination is just one of several new products Comcast Wholesale has been rolling out. Previously, it introduced a Live Linear Streaming service, an end-to-end streaming solution for pay-TV operators, programmers and anybody else launching OTT services, for example.
