Comptel: Qwest offers 10-Gig service

Qwest Communications announced at the Comptel convention in Dallas this week that it's offering a new 10 Gbps wholesale service in a handful of markets. The service can be ordered in 1 Gbps increments.

Every time a carrier increases bandwidth availability, there are questions about whether that offering reflects real bandwidth demand. Qwest says its wholesale customers are seeing even greater bandwidth needs--up to 40 Gbps--from their customers, but their wholesale customers' network gear won't allow them to make that jump so quickly.
