CyrusOne extends colocation reach into Phoenix

CyrusOne (Nasdaq: CONE) on Wednesday said the first phase of the buildout of its 1 million square foot Phoenix Data Center is up and running, with over 36,000 square feet of space already being used by customers.

Leveraging its "Massively Modular" data center technology, the Phoenix-based data center has over 110 megawatts of power capacity which will be delivered from a substation that the local power company will build on the data center site.

A key benefit of CyrusOne's Massively Modular design approach is time to market and solution delivery for the company's customers. The service provider said it can commission a large data center in about 16 weeks, giving it a potential leg up on the data-center-in-a-box solutions currently being marketed by competitors.

"Our Phoenix data center represents a significant step forward in realizing our vision of a CyrusOne Western region hub for Fortune 1000 enterprise customers," said Kevin Timmons, CTO of CyrusOne, in a release about the new data center.

Having just completed its initial public offering last month, the company's opening of this data center is perhaps a sign of ongoing expansion and growth for CyrusOne, which is majority owned by Cincinnati Bell (NYSE: CBB).

To date, CyrusOne has 24 data centers in major U.S., European and Asia Pacific cities including Austin, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Houston, London and Singapore. In Q3 2012, CyrusOne added 95,000 square feet of new data center space in Texas' DASH (Dallas-Austin-San Antonio-Houston) market.

While Cincinnati Bell won't announce its Q4 2012 earnings until Feb. 27, CyrusOne has been continually profitable every quarter since it was purchased by the regional telco in 2010. In Q3 2011, the data center provider's revenues rose to $57 million, up $10 million, or 20 percent, year-over-year.
