Deutsche Telekom leans on Netcracker for network and service automation

Deutsche Telekom is looking to unravel some of the complexities of its network and services by tapping into Netcracker's automation capabilities.

Using DevOps and agile methodologies, Netcracker's Network Domain Orchestration platform will help Deutsche Telekom automate multi-domain network discovery and visualization. Other areas it will also improve include multi-layer optimization, IP and optical backbone provisioning and multi-vendor orchestration.

As service providers migrate towards hybrid and IP networks using networking functions virtualization (NFV) their networks have become more complex. To reduce some of those network complexities, Netcracker's Domain Orchestration platform will integrate dozens of IP devices and SDN controllers from more than five different hardware vendors.

Integrating those devices and SDN controllers is expected to reduce Deutsche Telekom's provisioning time and effort by more than half, according to Netcracker. The project roadmap also includes adding intelligent networking planning and simulation, as well as improving service assurance with artificial intelligence.

Delivered in phase, the project will start by automating network discovery and visualization to gain end-to-end network insights. Those insights will pave the way for automating IP and optical trunk provisioning.

Netcracker, which has made its name in the industry by working with service providers in the OSS/BSS space, announced its Netcracker Business Cloud software stack last year as a means to help service providers roll out cloud-based SDN and NFV services and applications at a faster clip.

Netcracker's modular software stack includes pre-integrated virtual network functions (VNFs), orchestration and management tools, OSS/BSS systems, portals and a digital marketplace to ramp up the time to market for service providers.
