Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) had some grand ambitions for their partnership, but all of that came to a halt when Verizon's CFO Fran Shammo announced last week during the Q3 earnings call that they closed down their joint innovation lab. While neither company offered any specific reasons for severing their relationship, Steve Donohue, editor of FierceCable, theorizes that virtual cable and CableWiFi could be some of the reasons why.
