Allot Communications, a vendor of deep packet inspection technology and IP bandwidth management solutions, announced that it is acquiring Esphion, a vendor of behavioral analysis solutions, in a deal valued at about $5.5 million. About $3.5 million of the sum will be paid in cash, with up to another $2 million due if Esphion surpasses performance goals during 2008.
DPI has been well received in the service provider market over the last year or so, though it also has been at the center of the controversy over Comcast's delaying of some peer-to-peer Internet traffic.
