EarthLink's data center services support 2012 Boston Marathon

Runners in next week's Boston Marathon will once again have the assistance of EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK), which will provide registration, statistics, and other information services to the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) via its area data center.

Every runner's statistics and registration information will be stored in EarthLink's Marlborough, Mass. data center facility. With this capability in place, B.A.A event organizers, runners, spectators and the media will be able to access data in real-time.

By putting their data into the hands of a third party like EarthLink, the B.A.A. can focus its attention on managing the event.

"With thousands of runners and hundreds of thousands of spectators, access to data is critical to allowing us to track all of our runners and manage all of the information flow required to support this event," said T.K. Skenderian, B.A.A. marketing and sponsorship manager in a release.

Being chosen by the B.A.A again to handle a major local event like the Boston Marathon illustrates that the service provider, which gained instant data center presence when it purchased One Communications last April, is proof that its bet to become a technology solutions provider with data center capabilities is paying off.
