Ericsson acquires inCode to bolster its North American professional service capabilities

Ericsson's (Nasdaq: ERIC) acquisition of key assets of inCode's Strategy and Technology Group shows the company's ongoing strategy to capitalize on the ever-growing professional services segment.

Although neither company revealed the financial details of the deal, Ericsson will gain about 45 strategy, business and technical consultants based in the U.S. and Canada along with contracts technology and related intellectual property.

Magnus Mandersson, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Unit Global Services, Ericsson said in a release that "inCode adds unique expertise in complex, strategic and technical consulting engagements that will enable us to immediately enhance the value that we bring to our customers."

One of the most significant pieces Ericsson instantly gains from the acquisition is inCode's North American customer base-a market the Ericsson has been trying to establish a larger foothold through its acquisitions of Nortel's CDMA/LTE wireless assets and the former PON vendor Entrisphere.

On the professional services side, Ericsson has been no less aggressive. Last July, the European vendor struck a major coup when it won a large professional services and network outsourcing deal with Sprint.

Upon completion of the deal, inCode will retain its brand as part of Ericsson's Strategy Consulting Group of North America.
