Extreme adds PBT to Ethernet switches

Extreme Networks is joining the provider backbone transport crowd. The vendor said it is adding a pre-standard version of the IEEE provider backbone bridging-traffic engineering standard, the same technology commonly known to the market as PBT, to its BlackDiamond Ethernet switches. Extreme joins companies such as Nortel Networks and Hammerhead Systems in the PBT market at a time when several carriers are said to be evaluating the technology.
