FairPoint awaits Vermont ruling after meeting

FairPoint Communications met with the Vermont Public Service Board earlier this week to discuss the company's financial stability and take steps toward getting FairPoint's pending acquisition of Verizon Communications properties in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont approved by the board. No ruling yet, as this very long acquisition process moves into its 13th month. The most recent speculation suggests the Vermont regulator will act on the deal by Feb. 11. The Vermont board initially rejected the deal in December, but FairPoint has since submitted a revised proposal that met with the approval of the board's staff.
