FairPoint runs into overtime pay delay

Some FairPoint Communications employees working on the northern New England switchover of Verizon customers say they are not being paid overtime or being reimbursed for expenses.

A spokesperson for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 2326 said workers haven't been paid overtime payments since Jan. 26 and discussions have started with the union's lawyers to see what can be done in the courts if problems continue.

FairPoint says the union knew on Feb. 5 that the company would not be able to pay overtime due to the switchover, but that there have been additional difficulties due to the systems switchover. A spokesperson said the company was going to make sure that all overtime wages that are owed get paid.
