FiberMedia gets SSAE 16 certification

FiberMedia, a New Jersey-based data center provider, on Wednesday received the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) 16 certification.

The SSAE 16 certification, which supersedes its previous SAS 70 certification, means that FiberMedia has met the necessary compliance and safety-related requirements for controls and safeguards when hosting its customer's sensitive data.

SSAE 16 was developed by the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in 2010 as an update to the existing 20-year old SAS 70 accounting standard.

To obtain SSAE 16 certification, FiberMedia was evaluated on its ability to assess and reduce risk, enable business continuity and ensure security. It also had to complete SOC 1, SOC 2 and SOC 3 reports, compiled by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Gaining this certification is an important milestone for FiberMedia as it continues to expand its data center presence in its two key markets—New York City metro and Cleveland, OH. Not only does this certification strengthen FiberMedia's relationship with existing customers, but it also could be a draw to potentially new customers that are evaluating putting more of their sensitive data into a data center makes.
