Fibertech Networks is building a new fiber network serving Detroit and its suburbs as part of the company's ongoing desire to deepen its Midwestern U.S. network reach.
Initial work on this fiber route will include the buildout of 750 route miles that will pass through a number of Detroit-area suburbs including Trenton, Canton, Dearborn, Southfield, Warren, Troy and Chesterfield.
"This new network expansion is a natural 2013 extension of our market footprint given our growing presence in the Midwest and, most recently, our extension into five new markets in Ohio including Toledo," said John Purcell, chairman and CEO of Fibertech, in a release.
Over this network, Fibertech will offer its growing mix of optical and Ethernet-based services, including 100G, DWDM, dedicated Internet access and collocation.
The past two years have been a time of ongoing fiber network expansion for Fibertech. By completing this network in Michigan, the service provider now operates 30 metro U.S. networks.
Fibertech previously completed fiber network expansions in both Connecticut and the Cincinnati market, where it is looking to become a more formidable competitor to area incumbent telcos Frontier Communications (Nasdaq: FRP) and Cincinnati Bell (NYSE: CBB).
Fibertech has also extended its presence in key cities across number of other states such as Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pittsburgh.
