Former AT&T exec Chiosi exits Huawei

Former AT&T executive Margaret Chiosi left her post at Huawei three months ago, according to her LinkedIn profile.

On her LinkedIn profile, Chiosi's job title is listed as technical vice president, SDN/NFV for Huawei's FutureWei Technologies. With an office in Silicon Valley, FutureWei is Huawei's U.S.-based R&D subsidiary.

After more than 20 years at AT&T, Chiosi left in early 2016 only to resurface at Huawei in January of 2017. At Huawei, Chiosi also held the title of vice president of open ecosystems in the U.S., which is the same title she used at last year's Open Networking Summit North America, along with an address of Bridgewater, New Jersey.

According to her LinkedIn profile, her tenure at Huawei/FutureWei lasted from June 2017 to April 2019, which is just over two years.

At AT&T, Chiosi was an AT&T Distinguished Network Architect and one of the early influencers of virtualization, software-defined networking (SDN) and Carrier Ethernet services. Chiosi, who spoke at numerous industry events and conferences, was one of leaders of AT&T's Domain 2.0 virtualization initiative and SDN efforts. She was also a founding member of the ETSI ISG Network Functions Virtualization Forum and OPNFV - Open Platform for NFV, and was on the board of directors for MEF.

Chiosi is currently an independent consultant for telecommunications in the New York City area, according to LinkedIn.

In January, according to The Wall Street Journal, Huawei's FutureWei subsidiary in Silicon Valley was blocked from sending some of the technologies it had developed in the U.S. back to China. The U.S. Department of Commerce notified FutureWei last summer that it would not be renewing its export license. The move effectively blocked Huawei from tapping into the vast technology workforce and favorable regulations in Silicon Valley.
