Foundry pushes PBB to the edge

Foundry Networks announced a family of small Ethernet edge switches aimed at exploiting the benefits of provider bridge backbone (PBB-also called provider backbone transport) to meet the demands of fast-growing Ethernet networks. The company's move endorses targeting the PBB standard at edge issues, while keeping multi-protocol label switching technology at the network core, rather than force PBB into the core to solve scalability issues.

PBB/PBT has been one of the hottest network technologies of the last year or so, but the industry has been recalibrating its expectation since former champion BT marginalized the technology earlier this year.
