Columbus, Ohio-based Horizon announced a new connection to Equinix's Chicago data center, which is a major on-ramp for the Midwest. Horizon has connected its network backbone to the Equinix data center located on Cermak Road in Chicago in order to provision its Ethernet and IP services between Columbus and Chicago.
“We have already contracted to connect two global companies that reach over 180 countries from the Cermak location into Columbus,” said Horizon's Joey Holibaugh, senior vice president of carrier and business development, in a statement. “This expansion will continue to help other carriers, from regional to international, reach Columbus and other parts of Ohio from Chicago that they haven’t been able to get to before.”

Equinix's Cermak Road data center is among the largest internet exchanges in the Midwest. In addition to helping customers reach Ohio, Horizon can also help current Ohio customers reach Chicago through the same low latency, Ethernet network that they have already been using. It also provides direct connectivity to internet peers, content delivery networks and cloud service providers that use the Equinix data center.
Horizon is a fiber-optic broadband carrier operating in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan. Its network offers high-speed point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, dark fiber, wavelength and data center services primarily to business customers.
