Hot Metric: Switch spending hits $2.9 billion

Ovum RHK reported that sales of packet switches and routing gear grew about 26% in the third quarter, compared to last year's third quarter, and reached about $2.9 billion overall. The report is a reminder that there are some sectors of the telecom industry where spending isn't quite so tight, namely IP MPLS core and edge gear. Specifically, spending on IP MPLS core equipment was up about 44%, and pay-outs for IP edge gear were up 40%.
