Italian gov't against foreign ownership of Telecom Italia

Telecom Italia has been hounded for months by rumors that it might consider being acquired by Spain's Telefonica, which owns a 10 percent stake in Telecom Italia through a subsidiary. Despite Telecom Italia's consistent denials that such a plan exists, the Italian government has been moved enough by the rumors to say during a press conference on broadband policy that it wants Telecom Italia to remain in Italian hands.
