At the Open Source Leadership Summit, the Linux Foundation announced the formation of CommunityBridge, which is a new platform created for open source developers.
In making the announcement, Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation, said on stage at the conference that the Linux Foundation would match funding for any organization that donated funds to CommunityBridge projects.
Following up on those announcements, Microsoft-owned GitHub said it would donate $100,000 to CommunityBridge and invited maintainers of CommunityBridge projects to take part in GitHub's maintainer program.
“We greatly appreciate GitHub’s donation and support of CommunityBridge and are happy to match it—all in the name of the maintainers we both aim to serve,” said Zemlin, in a prepared statement. “We invite other organizations to engage in our grant program, and help us solve critical challenges to better support long-term sustainability for open source projects.”
The Linux Foundation will match any organization that contributes money to CommunityBridge projects up to a total of $500,000 across all of the contributors.

Throughout this year and next year, the Linux Foundation plans to launch various tools for CommunityBridge in order to better serve open source developers and ecosystems. The initial launch of CommunityBridge offers open source communities early access to three tools:
• CommunityBridge Funding will help developers raise and spend funding
• CommunityBridge Security provides transparency into potential vulnerabilities and fixes
• CommunityBridge People will help enable connections between mentors and prospective mentees interested in getting involved in projects and advancing diversity.
It has been a busy week for the Linux Foundation. It also announced at the conference that the Node.js Foundation and the JS Foundation are merging to form the OpenJS Foundation and that the Cloud Native Computing Foundation now has 59 members, including the recent additions of Ericsson and Affirmed Networks as silver members.
The Linux Foundation announced on Tuesday that it had launched the Continuous Delivery Foundation (CDF) to collaborate on the delivery of software tools while the Linux Foundation's the CHIPS Alliance was announced on Monday.
