MegaPath conducts free VoIP phone promotion

As MegaPath begins to integrate the assets of the former Speakeasy and Covad into its fold, the new managed service local exchange carrier is offering a free Cisco SPA 303-3 IP phone to any new business customer that signs up for its unlimited or global Hosted Voice calling plans.

The promotion, which is a continuation of the previous promotion being conducted by the former Speakeasy for customers that have at least five lines, is one element of MegaPath's drive to create a common set of products, pricing and promotion across each of its company units.

Sticking with the spirit of the original Speakeasy promotion, MegaPath believes that its free phone promotion will help remove "upfront costs, which is one of the "last barriers to VoIP adoption." Speakeasy's initial free phone program helped drive new customer inquiries by over 40 percent.

Still what good is a VoIP service if it does not offer new features? Along with the new phones, MegaPath is offering a host of new features, including push to talk, N-Way Calling, Hoteling, and Answer Confirmation.

As compelling as this offering is, the key for the new MegaPath will obviously be in ensuring that its respective integration of its newly acquired properties can be done in a way that won't disrupt the existing customer bases of the three service providers. It appears that MegaPath's message of creating common set of products is at least the first step in that direction.
