NBN Co. names Ralph Steffens as COO

NBN Co. has added Ralph Steffens to its management roster as the company's first Chief Operating Officer as part of a broader effort to bolster its management team to run its nationwide wholesale fiber network in Australia.

Based in Sydney, Steffens will report directly to CEO Mike Quigley, and oversee all aspects of completing out of the National Broadband Network, including network build out planning, network operations and information technology (IT).

He joins the NBN from BT (NYSE: BT) where he served as the telco's managing director, Service Delivery. At BT, Steffens led a team of 4,000 employees that managed its diverse set of multinational business customers and its international network.  

Steffens brings plenty of network build experience to the NBN table. In addition to managing BT's ongoing broadband network infrastructure upgrade and at COLT (Nasdaq: COLT) led the build out of a 12 country, 15,000 km pan European network.
