Nokia Siemens Networks taps Rick Corker to head up North American unit

When Nokia Siemens Networks needed someone to replace Sue Spradley to oversee the company's North American unit, they found what they were looking for right inside their organization by going to their own Asia-Pacific region chief Rick Corker.

During his tenure as the head of NSN's Asia-Pacific region, Corker has driven company growth in major countries including Japan and Korea.

When Corker, an Australian citizen, takes his new post effective on April 15, he will be based in Dallas, Texas.

Spradley, who has headed up the North American division since July 2007, is stepping down to pursue other opportunities outside of NSN but will continue to serve as a non-executive advisor to Nokia Siemens Networks and as a member of the company's external advisory board.

"We have had some great wins and some very tough losses when it comes to capturing the North American business," Spradley wrote in a letter to employees. "It is time now that a new leader takes on the challenge--and privilege--of leading NSN in North America to the next stage; I leave with great pride, knowing that the team we've built together is ready for the next level of success."

Taking Corker's place in Asia-Pacific will be Paul Tyler, who is currently head of sales for the company's Network Systems division in the Asia-Pacific region out of Singapore.
