Podcast: Tom Loozen, Global Telecommunications Leader at EY

In a recent study, EY found that after a boom in digital services during the pandemic, the rising cost of living is impacting the way people consume digital content, with 45% of responding households believing that they are paying too much for content they don’t consume.

In the study titled “Decoding the Digital Home”, EY noted the changing behavior in consumers when it came to digital services in the home, including broadband and streaming. For example, 27% households want to cut the number of streaming platforms they use and 21% are open to reducing the number of connected devices in their homes. Additionally, over half of households are concerned that their broadband and TV providers are planning to increase subscription rates in the near future.

While the number of streaming platforms continues to expand, the reality is that there is some consumer fatigue, and cost concerns, creeping into the customer, and that might have some significant consequences on the market.

Tom Loozen, Global Telecommunications Leader at EY, joins Fierce Telecom Podcast host, Alejandro Piñero for an in-depth discussion of these findings, and the evolution of digital service consumption in the home. With households being put under severe pressure by rising inflation and generationally high cost of living, digital services are becoming an increasing target for cost savings in the home, and EY have picked up on these trends.
