RCN Business complements Ethernet, voice suite with Managed LAN product

RCN Business is giving its enterprise customers another tool to manage their Hosted Voice and Ethernet products with the launch of its Managed LAN service.

Packaged as a switch management solution for RCN Business Hosted Voice and Ethernet products, customers can use the Managed LAN service to configure, deploy, monitor and manage the RCN Voice/Ethernet switch.

The new service is all about taking the guesswork out of the enterprise's hands. In addition to providing one point of contact for voice WAN and LAN management, RCN will provide 24X7 monitoring of the switches.

Businesses will also get various support services when adding Managed LAN, including technical assistance with switch issues.

Robert Roeder, EVP and chief development officer of RCN, said in a release that the Managed LAN service will "help businesses lower their costs, while enabling IT managers to focus more on their day-to-day responsibilities."

Some of the other benefits of the Managed LAN service include seamless addition of new Hosted Voice seats during expansion, increased reliability, minimal network downtime with guaranteed SLA response times and lower operational costs.

Delivered in conjunction with Ethernet and voice services, Managed LAN is available in all RCN Business markets, including Boston, Chicago, Lehigh Valley (Pa.), New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Managed LAN services is priced at $99 per month.

RCN Business could immediately target its growing base of New York City customers, a market where the service provider has conducted some network expansions into key sites such as the Empire State Building and 450-460 Park Avenue.
