Though U.K. telco giant BT has had limited experience thus far with fiber-to-the-home, with one ongoing trial in Southeast England, the carrier has issued an invitation-to-tender to several vendors of gigabot passive optical network equipment. The company also reportedly is close to coming up with a short list of vendors, according to Light Reading's coverage of this week's FTTH Council Europe event. The telco is said to be eyeing GPON capabilities that aren't even in today's systems, and seems to have taken an attitude with FTTH thus far that it won't rush into the future.
