SAP embraces AWS, Azure and Google Cloud with new platform

On Thursday, SAP announced its Embrace project, which seeks to put SAP S/4HANA into the cloud via collaborations with Microsoft Azure, AWS and Google Cloud. Embrace is designed to help enterprises move SAP S/4HANA into the cloud in the language and context of the primary industry they are serving.

Embrace is designed to help enterprises move SAP S/4HANA into the cloud in the language and context of the primary industry they are serving. It does this by recommending the platform, software, services, and infrastructure from SAP, and then pairs those components with preferred hyperscaler and service provider partners.

The move to SAP S/4HANA in the cloud includes "market-approved journeys," reference architectures and access to underpinning technologies. Some of the benefits of Embrace, according to SAP, include shorter negotiations, streamlined teaming and faster, risk-managed implementations.

In addition to the hyperscaler providers, SAP said Embrace also includes system integrators. By partnering with the hyperscalers and system integrators, SAP said it was providing its customers with a single blueprint to support their cloud transitions.

“Our customers are very clear about the business outcomes they expect to achieve when migrating to the cloud — and that includes operational excellence and innovation,” said Jennifer Morgan, president of Cloud Business Group and member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, in a prepared statement. “Working together with the hyperscalers and global strategic service partners, we’re in a unique position to shape our customers’ journeys to becoming intelligent enterprises.”

Embrace is comprised of four key components:

• A set of foundational services running on SAP Cloud Platform to enable the integration, orchestration and extension of SAP systems and third-party applications running in the cloud or on premise

• A jointly developed reference architecture that incorporates the required SAP and hyperscaler components to run the customer’s applications

• A jointly created and market-approved roadmap created with hyperscalers and the system integrator  partners

•   A newly launched set of services designed to support customers running a cloud or hybrid infrastructure on a hyperscaler.
