Savvis rebranded as CenturyLink Technology Solutions

CenturyLink's (NYSE: CTL) Savvis brand is getting a makeover as the telco renames the data hosting subsidiary CenturyLink Technology Solutions.

Set to go into effect immediately, the service provider said the "alignment between the business unit and parent company represents the combined value that CenturyLink delivers to businesses through its broad set of colocation, managed services, cloud and network offerings."

Although the Savvis brand is going away, day-to-day operations will remain unchanged. Customers will still be able to interact with the same account teams they interact with to get service and resolve issues.

The past year has been a time of ongoing growth for Savvis with a particular focus on adding data center space and enhancing its service capabilities.

While it won't announce fourth quarter 2013 earnings until Feb. 12, CenturyLink added "80,000 sellable square feet" of data center space in the third quarter.

In November, it announced further expansion into Canada with plans to debut a second data center in Toronto this summer. On the services front, the service provider acquired Seattle-based Tier 3 to enhance cloud app development.

Stopping short of revealing any specific targets, Stewart Ewing, EVP and CFO of CenturyLink, said during the Citi Internet Media & Telecommunications Conference that data center and metro fiber providers could be potential acquisition targets that could complement its growing data hosting business.

CenturyLink is not alone in its desire to realign the data hosting brand. Earlier this month, TDS Telecom (NYSE: TDS) renamed its Hosted and Managed Services (HMS) subsidiary OneNeck IT Solutions LLC, bringing its growing collection of cloud, managed and IT services under one brand.
