Sizing up the Comcast Media Center

Comcast's (NASDAQ: CMCSA) Media Center in Centennial, Colo., just outside Denver, has emerged as one of the largest facilities for shooting, producing, originating, uplinking and storing high-definition video for cable television. Situated between the Western and Eastern U.S. power grids, the 350,000-square-foot facility stores 44,000 gallons of diesel fuel to power back-up generators if both grids fail. During the recent SCTE's Cable-Tec Expo trade show in Denver, FierceCable toured the plant, which at the time was also hosting Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and NFL Hall-of-Famer Joe Montana, who were shooting a Papa John's Pizza commercial on one of the facility's sound stages.
